The absolute number of infected in a country of our size is inevitably going to rise.In fact the level of transmission is probably significantly higher & largely untraceable & unreported. This shouldn’t alarm the world. ndtv.com/india-news/cor… (1/3)
What we must focus on & control is the number of fatalities & the availability of beds/ICU beds. These numbers are real & trackable. So far,the percentage of fatalities has been mercifully low & with boosted medical infrastructure we must aim to keep the numbers low. (2/3)

As offices begin to slowly open today, most companies will be exploring what I call ‘Sanjivani solutions’, i.e. a potion for emerging from a Corona-induced coma. A good time to share some of the thinking of our Group leadership on how we might hit the ground running: (1/3)
1) Adopt a start-up mindset. Which means: a) Become as lean an Organization as possible b) Nothing is sacred; all business models open for debate. Create ‘feedback loops’ that constantly test product/market assumptions c) Share ideas & data across the company at warp speed (2/3)
2) Do a Marie Kondo style clean up of the portfolio and bid goodbye to those initiatives which don’t fall into your narrative of a successful future.
3) Raise sufficient capital for the journey of evolution. It’s not a short trip. (3/3)

The number of new cases has risen, despite flattening the previous few days. With higher testing, a continuing rise is inevitable given the low absolute number of cases relative to our population & the rest of the world. We shouldn’t expect a swift flattening of the curve.(1/5)
This doesn’t mean the lockdown hasn’t helped. India’s avoided lakhs of potential deaths in its collective fight. India’s death rate per million is currently 1.4 compared to the global average at 35 & the US at 228. We’ve also bought time to enhance medical infrastucture (2/5)
But if the lockdown is extended for much longer, we will be risking economic hara-kiri. A functioning & growing economy is like an immune system for livelihoods. A lockdown weakens that immune system and most hurts the impoverished in our society. mckinsey.com/featured-insig… (3/5)

I believe there’ll indeed be more Working From Home post-the-pandemic, but the tradition of the workplace will remain predominant. Those who predict large-scale WFH are looking through affluent country lenses. (1/3)
A workplace brings a sense of self-worth as well as freedom from congestion & domestic stresses, especially for women. Often, in developing countries, social distancing & sanitation is more feasible at organised workplaces. But most important...(2/3)
A workplace, whether in the developed or developing world, allows significant, unplanned, informal interactions. Such interactions are often the source of innovation. Hence, I would advocate ‘hastening slowly’ before rushing to WFH. Would welcome views...(3/3)
