Damn, Wits is gone. It's a sad day for football in South Africa with the announcement that #BidvestWits, a 99 year old club, has been sold to #TTM

Here's a thread on the history of the club
Wits University was formed in 1921 by the university's Students Representatives Council. The club competed in a variety of tournaments and leagues before eventually winning promotion to the National Football League in 1975
Wits won their first major title in 1978 – winning the Mainstay Cup after beating Kaizer Chiefs in the final of the competition. Six years later they picked up the BP Top 8, and a year later in 1985 they again beat Chiefs, this time in the final of the JPS Knockout Cup.
The club finished 6th in the inaugural NSL season in 1985 while Scottish striker Frank McGrellis was crowned the league's top scorer with a total of 29 league and cup goals. In the 90's, the club won two trophies, the BP Top 8 and the Coca-Cola Cup in 1995
In 1996, Wits was almost relegated but survived thanks to a win on the final day of the season against Jomo Cosmos. Mid-table finishes followed in 1997 and 1998 before the club finished sixth in 1999–00
In 2001, former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Roger De Sa was appointed head coach, and he guided the club finishing 7th in the #PSL in 2002, before third-placed finishes in 2003 and 2004. Things went disastrously wrong in 2005 though when Wits were relegated.
At the start of the 2005–06 season, former Santos Cape Town and Maritzburg United coach Boebie Solomons was appointed as head coach, and Solomons' first season in charge brought a return to the PSL with #Wits comfortably winning the Mvela Golden League.
In June 2007 Roger De Sa rejoined the club after a two-year absence. He replaced caretaker Eric Tinkler who succeeded Boebie Solomons during the 2006–07 season.
In 2010 #Wits managed to win the Nedbank Cup defeating AmaZulu in the final.
The 2016/2017 season saw Bidvest Wits win their first PSL title. Wits finished the season with 18 wins, 6 draws and 6 losses, and won the league by three points. They also won the MTN8 Cup in 2016, beating Sundowns, and the Telkom Knockout in 2017.
I guess its also basically confirmed then that Bidvest will be the sponsors of the PSL. What a crazy time we live in.

The furore surrounding the proposed sleeve sponsorship of the English Premier League (EPL) football club Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) by South Africa Tourism (SAT) is still raging.

There are many parts to this but we'll concentrate on the SA Tourism mandate and the deal
SAT is the official marketing agency of the National Department of Tourism. It's mandate is the effective marketing of South Africa as a domestic and international tourist destination.

They identify target markets for growth and have global offices from which they operate

Juventus handed a 15 point deduction and directors banned

Club found to have falsely inflated the value of players and misrepresented losses. Last year's financials showed losses of €254 million, the highest ever in Italian football.

They have also made losses 5 years in a row
The most cited example in the reported 42 suspicious Juve transfers being looked at by the FIGC is last year's deal between the 36-time Italian champions and Barcelona which saw Miralem Pjanic move to Catalonia and Arthur Melo go the other way.
Arthur was valued at €72 million and Pjanic €60 million, but even though nowhere near that amount of cash was paid both clubs could immediately book the values of the sales on their balance sheets.

When it comes to attendance, stats show that gym memberships have increased over the years. In South Africa, for example, the number of Virgin Active gym memberships has grown from 497,000 in December 2021 to 587,000 in October 2022.
