This process forces you to understand the strategy and effort required for each growth step, BEFORE you start building anything.
And it adds extreme clarity to what you need to build for your MVP.
I see many makers/founders think they need to boil the ocean with their first release, and it’s typically a death sentence. Resist the urge.
When you start to think in orders of magnitude, you create natural milestones that feel more achievable.
What is the most basic feature set you need to get just 10 users?
If you can’t get 10 users, don’t build for 100 or 1000 yet. It’s a waste of your time.
And regardless of how many twitter followers you have, anyone can get their first 10 users by just starting conversations on Twitter. Find people tweeting about the problem you’re solving and tell them you’re trying to help.
And since you already have a convo started with them, there is already a natural way for you to get user feedback on how well it’s working for them.
Maybe you can even get to 100 users this way, but unlikely you can get to 1000. Another form of growth needs to kick in (word of mouth, referrals, etc.)
But as I mentioned, I wouldn’t worry about any of this until you prove to yourself you can get to 10.
