Thread.....
I had heard of Qyuki even before Samir joined+took the helm.
It was conceived by @shekharkapur + @arrahman. A few years later, @sanjaynath said that he had run into the dynamic man now in charge.
Given my love for media, I should hear him out - this man was @samirbangara
A banker at E&Y who went onto to be @vishalgondal’s wingman at India Games, worked at Disney post its acquisition and then discovered his own calling to breathe a new fire into @MyQyuki
My impulsive reaction was "its too late a stage for us Sanjay" - we'd be wasting each other time. @sanjaynath persisted that there would be enough to learn and I'm thankful that he pushed me to make that meeting happen.
Over next 2 meetings, he had me further intrigued. I told him our constraints -ownership of 10%, yet a ltd amt of capital to play our opening chq. He liked us too - Blume shared his vision. He needed to find a way and his banking / structuring skills made it happen.
We became investors andshareholders. Later on, BAce (Benny) became believers and recently, @infoedgeVC. Co grew 5x since we had met. Samir was going to lead this story into the new decade, Covid or otherwise.
Spot new talent + create win-wins - simple!
Alas, him not being around to see @MyQyuki get there feels like such a betrayal of fate's hand. All his stakeholders - investors and partners - who were common to us, wrote into us today, in shock at his accident. Everyone liked this guy, whether they liked his business or not
The wall/shelf behind his desk at office bore pictures of him on a race bike, taking a curve with class, pics of his families at work and at home - these mattered to him a lot. All at work looked upto him as a mentor and a leader. He was always there for them
One reads many stories of folks being taken away by the things they most love.
“Live to Ride” was what his FB profile said
May the Universe give his soul wings and his families peace.
