1100 class used mainly on the Illawarra Line South Coast Daylight Express and other services. 1200 class (Tulloch) cars added to the 1100 sets to boost capacity.

Following a derailment at Erskineville in 1983 3 cars converted to loco haul only. FPB 1102 and PHB 1141 worked in the Riverina for a while.
