Hugely important and informative thread that leads to a subject very near and dear to our hearts and minds nowadays.

And once you read this linked thread, I'll continue below with my thoughts on how that strategy leads to another type of "conversion."
We see the same strategies being taken by mainstream media, and it has only become clearer as their rhetoric has escalated. Arguably, the same applies to the fanatical left, but I'm only addressing the media here.
There is the inherent desire to paint yourself and your allies with a better light than your foes. This is true in politics on both sides of the aisle as well, although I am not addressing that here either. This is only addressing how the media has used this same strategy.
The media has long labored under pressure—even, arguably a mandate—to provide fair, nonpartisan, unbiased news. We've seen it in their slogans. "We report; you decide!" "Fair and balanced!" "The most trusted name in news!"

The onus has been on them to avoid bias. Until recently.
For example, here's Brian Stelter, the "Reliable Sources" guy, openly stating that journalism has become little more than partisan renditions of what reporters "see as the truth," without regard to the other side of the political spectrum.
And it's gone so far that they actively lie to the public. Here's a tidbit from a "news" source linked to our same Brian Stelter, claiming rioting is now over and stating so is an "alternate universe." Tonight, he'll cover how Atlanta is burning up now.
And sometimes they just plain lie. Not understating something, or insinuating something is different than it is, but just plain stuffing a lie down our throats. Case in point, CBS News with this incredibly obvious fake news from earlier this year:
Incidentally, I was bombarded by friends about that when it happened. I have a ton of Filipino friends from my time living there, and they were all astonished at how dishonest it was: 1. Not referring to those who broke quarantine, and 2. Not telling police to kill in cold blood.
It's become so rampant now that we find multiple fake news stories from every source of news every single day. Here's Fox News caught manipulating photos of the sad little #CHAZ "utopia" in Seattle. And it's not like there wasn't enough real stuff already.
And of course, ABC News with their "Syrian" Kentucky gun range footage. And these are hardly the only examples of not only lying, but actually manipulating video and photos to lie. This is premeditated, planned fake news.
So how did the media go from being (or at least appearing to be) straight, unbiased reporting to actively lying to us to support an admitted partisan agenda? The same way Chinese concentration camps picked away at POWs. Little by little. Small, insignificant bit by bit.
It didn't happen overnight. It couldn't have, or people wouldn't buy it. Many aren't still because it's becoming so blatantly partisan and untrue we are unable to ignore it. It's simply too much now for all but the insanely gullible to believe.
But we're now at the point where news reports that the *intent* behind violating all these shutdown laws makes a difference. And they're not just insinuating it; they're stating that verbatim. It all ties into the notion of defending your own cause because you feel it is just.
It's all built up from little tiny steps to this. The media is now at the stage where they are telling us their agenda openly, even as the double standards are painfully obvious, because it verifies their biases, and therefore must be done, objectivity and truth be damned.
