1. CHRISTIAN LEADERS WHO TRANSFORMED THE POLITICS OF ZIMBABWE

Zimbabwe has many Christian leaders who have actively participated in politics based on their belief in liberation theology. These leaders have shaped the destiny of the country over the years.
2. REV. ABEL MUZOREWA (late) was the Prime Minister of the short lived Zimbabwe-Rhodesia government of 1979. Muzorewa was an ordained minister of the Methodist church.
3. The president of this government was Josiah Zion Gumede (late).
4. REV. NDABANINGI SITHOLE (late) was the founding leader of ZANU. He later founded the ZANU (Ndonga) party. Sithole was an ordained minister of the Methodist church.
5. JOSHUA NKOMO (late) was the ZAPU leader & subsequently Vice President of Zimbabwe. Nkomo was a lay preacher of the Methodist Church & occasionally preached at Mzilikazi Methodist church in Bulawayo where Rev. Banana was a member too.
6. REV. CANAAN BANANA (late) was the founding president of Zimbabwe in 1980. He was a professor of religion & an ordained minister of the Methodist church. (Banana was Sotho from Esigodini. Banana is a Sotho/Tswana word meaning 'youth' & is not pronounced as banana for a fruit).
7. During his presidency Robert Mugabe (late) was this Prime Minister. In 1987 the office of the Prime Minister was dissolved & an executive presidency was created which was headed by Mugabe. Banana is credited for facilitating talks that ended the Gukurahundi massacres in 1987.
8. JOHANE MASOWE (Shoniwa Masedza) (late) was a religious leader who openly challenged the colonial government of Rhodesia. He spearheaded a religious movement that promoted Pan Africanism across Africa. He was banished to South Africa by the Rhodesian government in 1947.
9. BISHOP PIUS ALICK MVUNDLA NCUBE served as the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, until he resigned on 11 September 2007. He was a human rights advocate & an outspoken critic of former President Robert Mugabe while he was in office.He is currently based in Hwange.
10. REV. NELSON CHAMISA @nelsonchamisa is the leader of MDC ALLIANCE party and an ordained minister of the Apostolic Faith Mission Church in Zimbabwe (AFM). He is a prominent politician who has held a ministerial post in the government of Zimbabwe.

Correction : Sithole was ordained in 1958 as a minister at Mt Selinda Congregationalist Church. He was previously a member of the Methodist church where he worked before going to the USA for further studies.
