Many of the issues facing white wc and BAME people are very similar and both would well empathise with the other because they recognise those same problems themselves.
But, these discussions are often hijacked by very privileged people who want to maintain some level of victim status to get the feelgoods for their 'struggle'. These two groups get pitted against each other by those with vested interests
The protests are often involve middle class people who loathe the working class or who unironically believe themselves to be truly working class against all evidence and thus, believing themselves to have bettered themselves and thus sneer at real working class people
Though most white working class people detest the far right as much as anybody else, it is hardly surprising when some have their heads turned because the far right name issues white working class people face and do not hold their noses as they speak to them
The radicalisation of white working class people - which, miraculously, still remains genuinely fringe - comes about because very privileged people want to be seen as victims and stoke racial division by insisting of highlighting differences of race for their own sense of ID
Rather than highlight the common struggles on white wc and BAME people, they prefer the victimhood and ID politics that allows middle class people to consider themselves unprivileged victims
There would be a lot of empathy between working class white and many BAME people if only the privileged people with vested interests would allow them to make common cause and speak into the fact that both face genuine and real problems that do stem from issues of privilege
For many this stuff is no more than an annoyance, but living in an area with serious history of racial tensions, riots and BNP councillors that remains largely segregated, these view do not carry the same consequences for us as for those who stoke it for their own sense of ID
