In the UK, TV news was up 16 percentage points from Jan to April. Across the 6 countries surveyed in April, TV was up 5 percentage points. Online news consumption also up, social media up #DNR20

In the US, 20% of people surveyed for the Reuters Digital News Report now pay for news. It’s doubled in a few years. It’s up during Covid-19. 1/3 to 1/2 of subs go to the big brands in the US and UK. In Norway 64% of subs are to local brands #DNR20

Editorially curated products are essential. 16% of respondents get email newsletters; 31% listen to podcasts, with news increasingly important to the mix #DNR20

We need a responsible publishers network and a responsible advertisers' consortium. And need them to work together. That was the editor of the Yorkshire Post responding to the #dnr20 findings that only 5% of people pay for local news in the UK. The £ for pageviews model is broken
