BREAKING: Texas reports another big jump in COVID-19 hospitalizations. New record of 2,518 in the hospital right now with lab confirmed COVID - up 192 from yesterday and up 1,007 since Memorial Day. That is a 67% increase since Memorial Day
State is still reporting plenty of hospital beds and ventilators available. About 15K beds and 5,900 ventilators still available statewide.
Gov. Greg Abbott plans 1 pm press conference to address hospital numbers.
This appears to be our biggest one-day increase since May 4 to May 5 when we had a 355 increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations.

NEW RECORD: Texas has set a new record for hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Texas. The state just reported 2,793 lab-confirmed hospitalizations - that is an 11% increase from yesterday's record and now an 85% increase since Memorial Day.
Over the last 7 days we are averaging 2,334 confirmed COVID patients in hospitals.

Over previous 7 days that was 1,928.

7-days prior to that: 1,737.

The 7 days prior to Memorial day: 1,650
We saw our available beds drop by about 1,000 today too, but we still have a lot of beds, as Gov. Greg Abbott said yesterday. State is reporting 13,815 available beds even with this recent spike in hospitalizations. Also, 5,844 ventilators available.

BREAKING: For the 3rd day in a row Texas set a new record for hospitalizations. Texas has now seen hospitalizations increase 42 percent since Memorial Day.
We now have 2,153 people in hospitals - that's an increase of 97 since yesterday and 642 since Memorial Day.

State is still reporting about 13,600 hospital beds available.

Gov. Abbott's office assured me we have enough beds to deal with this increase right now.
“Every Texan who needs access to a hospital bed will have access to a hospital bed," Abbott's communications director told me.

To be sure, Abbott himself warned that numbers would go up as we re-opened and yesterday he said they are watching the numbers carefully.

BREAKING: Texas has never had more people hospitalized for COVID-19 than it is reporting today. We have 1,935 people hospitalized and over the last 7 days are averaging 1,836 patients per day. During the previous 7 days we we averaging 1,681 over 7-day period.
This comes less than a week after Gov. Greg Abbott announced bars, amusement parks and carnivals could open to 50 percent capacity.
The state still has more than 15,000 hospital beds available if numbers keep surging and more than 5,800 ventilators ready.
