The reaction to this says a lot about who is interested in a free press vs. who is interested in a media that only promotes things they agree with.
The worst part is that this was a targeted effort by another alleged news organization.
You don't have to like anything from The Federalist to understand the danger here and how harmful it is to allow news orgs to target and get competitors demonitized for articles they don't like. There is no evidence presented that could possibly justify such an action.
Here is the column that allegedly led to the violation. I understand disagreeing with it or some taking issue with some of the points, but show me what exact lines here would justify a publication being banned:

thefederalist.com/2020/06/03/the…
So not only was NBC News behind this effort to get Google to demonetize The Federalist, but then they got the story wrong.

Also, it’s for the article comments???? A lot of news orgs are in trouble then.

NBC News has completely rewitten their article, but this was really inexcusable. Their "reporter" in the UK worked with activist groups to target other outlets they didn't like for Google violations in the comment sections. A standard that NBC News couldn't possibly survive.
This was the expert cited in the article. The reporter wasn't honest with her about the subject.

Turns out what set of Google's alarms was NBC News and it was the freaking comments section.
