1. The geography of Covid-19 in America has changed. There has been a steep, welcome decline in the former hotspot (New York & adjacent states, Midwest). Unfortunately, there's spike in many states in South & West.
2. The New York Times charts are clarifying. For some states, this is a "second wave" but for many others it's all one big wave. In those states, this is just the beginning.
3. The Trump administration has made clear its response to spikes is going to be to down play it (using metaphors like "embers," "small bumps" and "flare-ups") while pushing full steam ahead with reopening.
4. I hate to be a Gloomy Gus but I think America is going to have problems for a long time. Even if Trump magically became competent & honest tomorrow, social trust has eroded. More here: thenation.com/article/politi…
