So @ImHardcory and @EPoe187 have retracted their article. This is a start, but the methodological and data quality issues they cite are jus the tip of the iceberg. The data certainly didn’t limit the racist conclusions they drew from it.
I am sure they will enjoy and reap the benefits of martyrdom within the conservative circles they frequent but neither has any place in #academia. Hopefully @NYUStern will do the right thing. Pretty pathetic of @PsychScience to not be proactive & force this decision themselves.
To be clear, this isn’t a “brave” decision. It’s a cowardly one in an attempt to save face and control the narrative. Their cited reasons for retracting paper reinforce that view. A simple scroll through their collective papers or tweets counters their feigned ignorance.
I am sure @PsychScience will sweep this under the rug to save face as well, and not acknowledge the problems inherent in their own society that allowed this to happen. Maybe @RetractionWatch will be interested in covering the story.

If the parties involved see this as the end of a process, it speaks volumes as to why systemic racism persists in #academia and especially social psychology.
Here are some actions we can take as scientists against the new crop of race scientists being sheltered by organizations like @HdxAcademy that use institutions like @PsychScience to legitimize their conservative (i.e. racist) agendas:
1. Communicate to @NYUStern that hiring @ImHardcory sends a clear message that they don’t value creating a safe space for BIPOC
2. Stop citing any article published in @PsychScience. Tanking their impact factor might get them to respect outsiders opinions.
