I'm finding it hard to comment on COVID lately because there's so little new to say.
- We still need more testing
- We still need more tracing
- We still need more PPE
- We still can't reopen safely
- The virus is still killing people
- The President is still the biggest obstacle
States that took a cautious and judicious approach to reopening are doing better, as expected.

States that were cavalier and reckless about reopening are getting worse, as expected.

All the things we needed to do back in April are still the things we need to be doing now.
The way to beat this is still testing, tracing, targeted quarantine, protecting high-risk populations, preventing super-spreading events, social distancing, wearing masks.

The places that take those priorities seriously will make progress. Those that don't, won't.
There was never some magical reason why southern states or red states were less vulnerable to the virus than NYC. They just locked down earlier relative to the trajectory of their outbreaks than NYC did, and managed to prevent the exponential growth phase.
Rather than recognize that they'd luckily dodged a bullet, many instead concluded they were bulletproof. And now are in the painful process of realizing too late that they're not.
