Back in October the Prime Minister's plane rolled into the side of a hanger at Trenton (air base) and crunched the nose rendering it unable to fly for months if not well over a year (still not back in the air). The final report is now. #CAF#RCAF
At the time RCAF sources told me they suspected a lack of proper training and potential errors by the contracted civilian ground crew. The report released by the RCAF says investigators found "training was informal and lacking emergency procedures" #CAF#RCAF
The report found that while the parking break was put on, chocks were only placed under some of the aircraft's wheels (not all), and the chocks were "not authorized" by DND in the Technical Support Arrangement they had with the company. #CAF#RCAF
So in lay terms - while the break was on the plane, they didn't shove blocks in front of all of the wheels and the blocks they used were not the kind approved of in the contract with DND. they also don't know why the parking break didn't stop the plane from moving.
The contractors also took the plane to a Hanger it is not normally in, and used a tractor that was too large for the limited space.
larger context to all of this and consequences: taking that plane out of commission put a lot of pressure on the RCAF. The planes are old, hard to fix, expensive and rare. In the midst of the RCAF having a lot of other problems right now including a pilot crisis this is just SMH.
Why civilian ground crews are working on a RCAF base in the first place is an interesting question. Anyhow, I've asked if the military is going to sue the company and if they have an updated estimate on when the plane will be back in the air.
The plane is also commonly used for troop transport and can be used for the GG too. It's the only one with the fancier paint job although believe me after many trips on it there is nothing fancy about the inside. This is an old Ward Air plane.
It's absence meant the PM, the GG and troops had 2 planes to juggle everything instead of the usual and already rather limited three planes.
Update… there is a warrant for him, but the JP who signed it ignored the police request for him to be kept in custody. So when he is picked up, he can walk after he appears.
Several police contacts told me they see this all the time and it’s typical of how the system works.
The warrant is related to him breaching his probation which involved clauses he could not contact me for three years.
So basically you can violate your probation conditions in harassment cases and police can say hey you should hold this person, but it’s catch and release.
I cannot imagine the frustration of police officers who deal with repeat offenders like mine (yes he is a repeat offender with a criminal record) and watching this happens and then having to tell gobsmacked women like me sorry but he won’t be held.
Have been asking whether Canada wasn’t asked or declined to sign a statement condemning Hamas issued by the US, UK, Germany, France and Italy.
One source told me we were not asked.
Two others said we weren’t asked bc this is from The Quint, it’s own little mini-alliance.
A fourth source said we were not officially asked but that doesn’t mean there’s not an unofficial approach.
Unofficial approaches can happen to gauge interest and or whether there is going to be a debate about watering down or beefing up statements; and to determine speed of potential response.
One source raised concerns about Canada not being in The Quint or AUKUS as alliances with key allies play out without Canada.
That said, I would be very surprised if there isn’t a G7 statement too
American media q1: you talked about security and economic partnership with Canada. Xi just went to Russia. Counties are forming opposing alliances, what does it mean for security basically
Biden says he disagrees with premise of question. Says US has expanded alliances, doesn’t think China or Russia are.
What commitment can China make to Russia? Biden asks
Twitter is shutting off dual factor authentication for accounts that don’t pay for verification. Including accounts already verified based on the job or person vs subscription.
Verified accounts that don’t pay will now be easier to compromise. Accounts ppl assume are legit.
I would be less concerned if Twitter said we are just revoking all blue checks unless you pay, versus keeping them but reducing security for those accounts.
Over the last couple of months I’ve had multiple attempted hard hacks on my social media. Dual factor has mattered.
Hopefully I’m wrong and there’s some kind of work around. If someone knows one, let me know and I’ll share.
