Hankison has a long history of being investigation by police, but w/ little discipline. Most recently, the mayor demanded that Hankison be removed from the Louisville Police Merit Board after several woman came forward claiming he sexually assaulted them.

It has been nearly three months since the first indepth story of this shooting came out, after the police FOP complained about a judge giving Taylor's boyfriend home incarceration. It would take another month or so before the fatal shooting went viral.
