A #CoronaVirusUpdate ...

This week, everything starts with Arizona. They should've seen this surge coming, but haven't reacted fast enough. The lack of a common plan of attack really hurt them so far, and that has resulted in cases surging.
They are certainly seeing a big increase in hospitalizations, use of ICU beds, etc. Have not seen a huge surge in death rates yet, but that is a lagging indicator.
Everything in Arizona is getting significantly worse. This is not an illusion.

The sooner the state acts to suppress the virus, the better. Otherwise, they may turn into a real hotspot, ala NY, NJ, MI...
Arizona, though, is somewhat unique. People have compared them to other states, but I don't think comparison is apt.

Lets take Florida. No question they are seeing an increase in cases, largely because of the opening of the economy and probably Memorial Day weekend functions.
Depending on how you graph this, you can make Florida look terrible, or not so bad.

To me, it is somewhere in the middle. They aren't really seeing a surge, so much as steady increase in infections.
Texas is similar. In fact, they overall have done pretty well, and definitely suppressed the curve. But they are seeing bad trend lines that they should respond to.
California is another one. The North is doing really well, but we are seeing bad trend lines in the south.
Other states that are on the watch list?

OR, NV, ID, UT, OK, AR, TN, AL, GA, SC.

What do all of these have in common? They all opened up their economies a little earlier.

The question is whether they will see a surge...or if this is just the tail end of the 1st wave.
The take home points:

1. Arizona is really in trouble.
2. Other states have increased disease, but so far appear manageable.
3. No state should wait to act. Promote social distancing, masks, hand washing, and establish testing/tracking/tracing NOW, not later.
