One of the most frustrating things about being a wildly obese physician was that I was given terrible nutritional advice w/ little evidence for efficacy & I accepted it w/o question because experts & public good, etc. this left me disenfranchised & in a place of self blame

Once I went to the primary literature, I found a different story, one that was not only NOT told but actively discouraged.

Public health measures are great. If the ideas makes sense and we communicate that it’s ONLY a best guess, it’s great.

Instead what we have is virtue signaling people who question its veracity.

Plant based is better than low carb, save the animals & environment nonsense

Etc etc

With regards to COVID, I feel the same

So many, literally, OCD doctors who Lysol their amazon packages have a megaphone. I don’t feel bad giving a different message, one that questions the herd mentality

I suspect this fact, will one day literally come back to haunt me but I do believe it’s the right thing.

I wear masks, my kids wear masks. We have socially isolated. My parents and in-laws have been told to be cautious & where masks, same for my patients.

But I feel happy questioning everything & everybody and verifying as much as I can for myself because I don’t trust the experts or their interpretation of the medical literature (see surgisphere, RECOVERY trial, funerals banned -protests okay, etc etc)
