@CantlonLab @timothycbates @AndrewRAConway There are an infinity of potential confounds, and if you've thought of it, it's probably been dealt with. What happens is a few studies are done and show that the things he thought up don't actually matter, and later research (rightfully) ignores those factors.
@CantlonLab @timothycbates @AndrewRAConway So first, you thinking of something doesn't mean it's anyone's duty to factor. "Maybe low SES have worse toilet paper and so get more sepsis. If you don't control for that, you're not doing your due diligence says I!"
@CantlonLab @timothycbates @AndrewRAConway Motivation - well substantial demographic variation in motivation first must actually be shown, you can't just imagine it. Second, since IQ tests predict academic performance, soldiering performance, and many other things equivalently across races, the motivation would have to
@CantlonLab @timothycbates @AndrewRAConway be systemically and identically distributed across all domains.
@CantlonLab @timothycbates @AndrewRAConway Interest only matters insofar as it effects motivation. You could say interest in learning leads to more learning and raises IQ, but since we know that's false, the only mechanism by which interest would matter is on motivation during the test itself, which doesn't vary by race
@CantlonLab @timothycbates @AndrewRAConway On "culture" - again identical predictive validity means "culture" would have to effect all the things IQ predicts identically with the IQ test itself. And race gaps are smaller on "culture-loaded" subjects like vocab and info than on more abstract questions.
