So I was in a Fathers Day mood and decided to go thru one of the massive folios my Dad left behind. It contains some fun stuff from the late 1950s, when he was working for the now forgotten North American Newspaper Alliance, known as NANA.
NANA was once a powerhouse in journalism. Hemingway covered the Spanish Civil War for NANA. My Dad loved working there.
Anyway, I always new my Dad had been an editor before he became more of a business guy. He was always an editor at heart. He probably began more sentences with “You know what would make a good piece...” than any other words. But I also knew he did reporting when younger.
So it was cool to find all of these clips from around 1958, many from newspapers now forgotten....
The range is pretty amusing.
I also found more original storyboards from comic strips. NANA was taken over by United Features Syndicate, which licensed some of the great comic strips, including Peanuts and (for a long time Garfield). These are from the 70s. My Dad worked with Charles Schultz for decades.
Anyway, I just thought it was kind of cool. No grand lessons or anything. Except maybe save your stuff so your kids can look at it one day. Also, try not to annoy your cat by displacing her to go through it.
