THREAD: Another analogy for the people in the back. If a hospital is bad at its job, people die, they lose the trust of the public and the public goes to another hospital. 1/9
If an airline is bad at its job, people die, they lose the trust of the public and the public flies another airline. If a police department is bad at its job, people die, they lose the trust of the public and... (yeah, finish this sentence if you can.) 2/9
We now know that video was found for Malcolm Harsch, his family has viewed it and determined he took his own life. We still don’t know what happened to Robert Fuller. What I do know, firsthand, is that the LA Sheriffs deemed it a suicide immediately, didn’t canvas the 3/9
area for cameras for at least 5 days, all the while lying there were no cameras. When shown there were cameras, they went to a couple of businesses (I asked 7 on Friday, only 2 said they were talked to by LASD). 4/9
And the best shot at capturing footage—Ocho A photography studio, 50 yards with a clear shot of the tree—well, they told me the police never came by--and their footage wipes every 24 hours. That was the best chance. 5/9
A black man is found hanging from a tree in front of city hall during the middle of the biggest civil revolution of our lifetime? You get the cameras immediately. You investigate as if it is a homicide and do the work. 6/9
Sheriffs should have worked overtime to find answers instead of working overtime to “control the crowd” who came out to demand answers. 7/9
At best, bad police work creates distrust. And that’s what is happening in Palmdale (and across the nation). Because they did a piss poor job investigating and an even worse job messaging to the public. 8/9
This is just a small example of why massive changes are needed. If they did this poor of a job investigating a case they knew would have been a national story, can you imagine how they investigate their other cases? 9/9
