To celebrate Sonic’s 29th birthday, I’m going to unveil a fun personal project of mine that I’ve been working on during quarantine: a pitch deck detailing my vision for an ideal Sonic cartoon!

My goal, with this proposal, was to create a Sonic cartoon that drew bits from all of my favorite past versions of Sonic and synthesized them into one streamlined continuity. Small nods to SatAM and the Archie/Fleetway/IDW comics, but with a SEGASonic focus and vibe. (2/17)
The Characters!

I’ve always liked the concept of the Freedom Fighters, but wanted the team to focus more on the actual game characters this time around (sorry Sally, Bunnie, and Antoine)

The Heroes!

- I wanted to give Sonic some ‘90s edge and attitude again. This version is very cocky and arrogant.
- Implemented some design elements from Sonic Boom, for Tails and Knuckles.
- Amy’s crush on Sonic is a secret. She’s much more independent and headstrong

Tangle the Lemur!

I wanted to implement a “rookie” character who’s just getting to know the main Sonic cast, and Tangle felt like a good fit to me. She’s very spunky! (5/17)
The Villains!

- Eggman is much more competent and threatening. Still comical and deliciously evil, tho
- Humpty and Dumpty are “original characters” who are, more less, stand-ins for Cubot and Orbot
- I gave Fang a SEGA Menacer, cause it felt like a good idea

BIG Rouge the Bat redesign. Wanted to give her more of a “trendy-goth-vampire” vibe. I also like the idea of her being a neutral wild card who switches sides to fit her interests (7/17)
Brought the SWATBots back! Heavily based their designs on the Egg Pawns from Sonic Forces (8/17)
The World!

I wanted a lot of the major stage themes from the games to be represented: Green Hill, Industrial, Amusement, Ancient Ruins, and Space.

I also brought back “Mobius” as the name for Sonic’s world. I wanted it to be distinct from Earth, for story reasons. (9/17)
South Island!

The Lake of Rings and the way “Power Rings” work are ripped straight from SatAM and the Archie comics (10/17)
Robotropolis!

I wanted it to feel more like a neon-lit cyberpunk city, rather than a gloomy, dystopian wasteland (11/17)
The Casino Park Zone! (12/17)

Took a lot of cues from Mystic Jungle and Casino Forest from Sonic Forces. The idea of Eggman tearing down a forest to make it into a gambling resort just really appeals to me

I also really like the idea it serving as a hub for villainous outlaws
Angel Island!

This version feels a bit more like Laputa, from Castle in the Sky. Lots of mysterious, ancient technology, and a seat of power for a long-gone mysterious, ancient race

The Death Egg

Ripped the design straight from the Death Egg II, from the Archie comics. Always dug the idea of it being actually EGG-shaped

Also, this version of Metal Sonic uses several concepts from other Sonic robots in his design, predominantly Mecha Sonic from S3&K (14/17)
