The creator of Yakuza says that localization is extremely important to to capture the original meaning more than literal translations and a bunch of Americans claim he doesn't know what he is talking about.

Once again proving it was never about respecting the creator's intent
There haven't been people more disrespectful of Japan and Japanese language & culture than all those folks trying to remove the agency of a Japanese artist for stating what he thinks.

Truth is, Japanese people know more about English than most of you know about Japanese.
Final Fantasy XII is a good example of great localization. The writing was standard Japanese throughout but they made it more Victorian, added accents for each culture, and even hired stage actors for voices.

It is still the best localization and voice acting for the series.
But by some weird, arcane metric some folks are having, the localization should be heresy because they changed a lot of things.
You would believe that everyone should speak American English in a medieval fantasy game just because the Japanese version is more direct 🤨
