Watching the entire Democratic establishment—including the Congressional Black Caucus!—back the white, losing Eliot Engel & not the wonderful winner, Jamaal Bowman, reinforces how out of touch the DNC is. It doesn’t know what ppl want or how to win. It’s not an opposition party!
Look at how well this young brother is doing. Hillary couldn’t get behind him. The Black Dems couldn’t get behind him! Just like they can’t get behind Medicare For All, police abolition, or any or the THE issues left voters/activists desire & are forcing

AirBnB built nothing. They figured out how to steal rental housing stock & make it into hotels, priced ppl who work in cities from being able to rent in them, and forced longer commutes & higher rents onto poor ppl. Spare us.
These "titans of innovation," who steal public goods like an available rental stock to a city of workers and try to put all risk on the poor, want to be known as "bold risk takers," then act like victims when there was an actual risk to their thieving business practices

The enormous gap between what “Black politics” means to the kids running these massive marches worldwide and what it means to the corporate Dems can be measured in how Biden’s VP shortlist includes Kamala Harris, a former prosecutor, and Val Demmings, a former police chief 🤔
They really think they can put forward someone who will check off “identity politics,” as if these disaffected ppl bringing MILLIONS into the streets don’t know the real, coalitional, Combahee coined identity politics which is demanding defunding police & prison abolition!
They’re going for the narrow, “we want just the RIGHT amount of Black!” imagined swing electorate (which consists of 17 or 18 ppl in Ohio) when they could tap the tens of millions who don’t/can’t vote bc the Dems give them nothing to vote for (but who are out in these streets)

Thinking back on an interview I did for @StoryCorps in 2007 with a couple who'd participated in civil rights marches in Memphis in the 60s.

"What do you want ppl to know about those protests that they don't?"

"People don't know how much FUN we had!" the wife answered.

She said ppl just see the dogs and firehose and the cops, and yes they were scary.

But she said they had FUN—"We sang, we danced, we prayed, we were so happy to be together!"

I have thought about this a LOT over the years.

Protesting and covering protests can be scary, especially when the teargas and the riot gear come in.

But in gay rights, Occupy and BLM protests I've covered, there is a great amount of joy. Laughter. Fun, even!

There is no joy greater than standing up for one another.
