*Thread* If there is one outfit all sensible people should avoid in the Labour party’s antisemitism crisis, it is “Labour Against the Witch-hunt” (LAW). It brings together several of the worst cranks. People who have been pushed out of the party are at the heart of it all. 1/10 Tony Greenstein
LAW has a simple and reprehensible aim – champion antisemites and slander their opponents. This is just what one should expect from a group which chose Ken “Hitler!” Livingstone as its “honorary president”. 2/10

None of this stopped Greenwich Labour councillor David Stanley from urging people to sign an open letter from LAW to Jeremy Corbyn earlier this year. 3/10
The letter presented a typical sweeping and false charge - “any criticism of the actions of the state of Israel is now immediately conflated with anti-Semitism”. It also bemoaned “smears” against “many good Corbyn-supporting comrades being thrown to the wolves of the Tory... 4/10
...Party and their supporters in the mainstream media”.

The letter’s signatories include some of the most controversial figures in the party’s antisemitism crisis, such as Jackie Walker and Asa Winstanley. Note Walker had already been expelled from the party at this point. 5/10
Councillor Stanley also has a soft spot for the Jew baiter Chris Williamson. Last August, he retweeted an appeal for funding for legal work from the “Campaign for Chris Williamson”, a vehicle of the cranks’ crank David Miller. Note Williamson was suspended at this point. 6/10
Stanley also retweeted messages of support for Williamson from Asa Winstanley, Tosh McDonald, Ken Loach, and Mike Leigh. What a constellation! 7/10
In 2018, Stanley retweeted a post by the notorious antisemitic "Press TV" journalist Roshan Salih. It was a wearyingly familiar sordid claim – “the Israel lobby” only attacked Corbyn for his stance on Palestine rather than genuine concerns about antisemitism. 8/10
Stanley has also promoted Jewish Voice for Labour (JVL), another outfit dedicated to whitewashing antisemites and attacking their opponents.

JVL are too much even for Momentum founder Jon Lansman. 9/10

The time to draw clear, firm and lasting lines has come.

Labour needs to adopt a “zero tolerance” stance on “Labour Against the Witch-hunt”.

The party’s members – Councillor Stanley included - should always shun it as they leave the dreadful Corbyn era behind. 10/10
