The claim in Peake’s article wasn’t “antisemitic” as such, but was clumsily phrased in a way that could feed into a “if-it’s-bad-Israel-must-be-behind-it” worldview. Sacking someone for RTing it is ludicorus; the leader shouldn’t be able to handpick the Shadow Cabinet anyway.
This will strengthen an approach to left antisemitism based on administrative and disciplinary procedure rather than debate and education, and it gives genuine left antisemites a cause to rally around.
People giving it “well I’m cancelling my membership”... crack on, I guess, but you’re giving Starmer exactly what he wants. Political parties should be about political intervention and contestation; pretty hard to do that if you’re not a member.
