To no rational observer's surprise, Germany now sees coronavirus recovery as its top priority... theguardian.com/world/2020/jun…

Bear in mind that the scale of the EU's proposed recovery fund, at £680 billion, is nearly 3x what the UK has paid in dues in the whole of its 47 year membership.

Apples & oranges to a degree, but it helps contextualise the importance of Brexit vs the pandemic to our neighbours.

Consider too that in the last 4 years, the EU has expanded its trade in goods by more than ALL the trade it does with the UK. In other words, even if it were to sell nothing to us and buy nothing from us (a ludicrous scenario) it would still be better off than at referendum time.

Since the referendum, the EU concluded trade deals with:
- Japan (126 million people)
- Canada (37 million)
- MERCOSUR block (295 million)
- Singapore (5.6 million)
- Mexico (126 million)
- Vietnam (95.4 million)
Total: 686 million people

UK population: 66 million people

It's like threatening your partner with a divorce in which you'll take everything, only for them to replace the house, car, furniture etc. even before they wave goodbye to you.

That "they need us more than we need them" scenario is the biggest load of rubbish ever spouted.
