I also said that the *whole* of food media has an issue with diversity, not just TV shows, and I specifically mentioned that abhorrent NYT article which framed Asian fruits using a "white gaze", and this Guardian piece on Filipino food
Another point which I tried very hard to explain and I guess turned into this part, is that you can cook *whatever* you like, *whoever* you are and *wherever* you're from, but if you:
(a) take the piss, and
(b) profit from said piss-taking,
don't expect people to be happy.

And to this last point, it's not really chefs or even the media that are causing this problem in the UK.
It's restaurant chains and supermarkets.

It's Granger & Co saying chicken and basil soup is the same thing as the Burmese national dish of fish and lemongrass soup and that we should be grateful that Western people are interested at all
*SO* many businesses profit from their messed-up interpretations of other people's food/national costumes/religious artefacts etc etc etc
