I saw this great piece, and I wanted to add some context about just how much the cause of Myanmar women has been set back after 60 years of brutal and misogynistic oppression by the Burmese military.

#WhatsHappeningInMyanmar Before military dictatorship in 1962, women had much more power, especially in commerce.

This extract from “Debating Democratization in Myanmar” (ed. Nick Cheesman) talks of businesses that were owned by Myanmar women.

Naga Daw Oo was my great-aunt.

This is the mother of 17 year old medical student Khant Nyar Hein.

Her son was shot dead by junta police in Tamwe, Yangon yesterday before they dragged his body away.

I’m going to tell you all what she says in this video here fb.watch/4faSWmD0hA/

#WhatsHappeningInMyanmar “Even when my husband and I had no food or clothes ourselves, we worked ourselves to the bone, because wanted the best for our children.

So that no one could grind them down, the children that I gave birth to, so no one could bully them or hurt them.”

Saw someone dismiss what’s happening in Myanmar as “riots” and it made me feel sick.

The junta is murdering peaceful protestors who have been *so* careful not to fight back (yet) to ensure that the junta cannot claim it’s just quashing civil unrest.

#WhatsHappeningInMyanmar Was this a riot?

On Mothers’ Day 2021, please spare a thought for the mothers in Myanmar fighting the junta with peaceful civil disobedience.

(video credit: anonymous)

#WhatsHappeningInMyanmar Every morning, it’s become routine for mothers to give a blessing to their children leaving the house to take part in the daily protests.

Every morning, mothers around Myanmar realise they may never see their child again.

"Chefs are in a stew about cultural theft": I talked to
@thetimes about Bon Appetit. (£) but my bit below.

Note I ALSO said the main issue is the non-white staff were not paid AT ALL and still have not been paid. Till they are, anything else is pointless thetimes.co.uk/article/two-to… I also said that the *whole* of food media has an issue with diversity, not just TV shows, and I specifically mentioned that abhorrent NYT article which framed Asian fruits using a "white gaze", and this Guardian piece on Filipino food

I’d ask for tips on how to stop makeup melting off my face in this weather, but I fear the answer would require time, money and effort. Instead, I shall rely on dabbing my forehead with this Zelda face towel.

Oh for the love of - if anything, this is worse than (Sh)Itsu.

I know we’re all yellow to you, @Tesco, but COME ON So the creators of the Kung Fu Bowl have just tweeted me this, and I really, honestly, cannot tell if they are trolling me or not.
