ZANU PF declared war on Chivi Central. In the month of June alone, I personally rescued, took care of &supported over 40 of our supporters & councillors who were assaulted, maimed & tortured by the regime. My home in Masvingo had become a refuge & hospital #Remembering2008 (2/7)
On the 26th June, a symphathiser within the CIO informed me that "Harare wanted me dead at all costs" and advised me to flee I said NO! On the 27th, a 'clean up team' arrived in Masvingo from Harare with a hit list. My name was top of this list #Remembering2008 (3/7)
As Providence would have it, I was alerted to this after trying to check in into a local hotel and the receptionist, who happened to know my son, warned me that suspicious men had checked into the same hotel and were asking about me and had my picture. #Remembering2008 (4/7)
That same evening, my intelligence 'friend' confirmed this & urged that we leave immediately. At 7pm, with a satchel each & we left everything we had known & owned, & were in the back of a pickup truck that had been organised to get us out of the city. #Remembering2008 (5/7)
Destination - Botswana! With 4 kids & my wife, we hiked to Zvishavane after failing to get transport to Bulawayo, where we spent the night on the pavement at the bus rank. Early morning, we got a bus to Bulawayo, where my best friend received us. #Remembering2008 (6/7)
For the first time in weeks, my family felt safe. We slept in Bulawayo & my friend drove us to the border the following day. I am grateful to the Botswana government who recieved us & treated us well. But our lives had been changed forever! #Remembering2008

#Remembering2008 As we remember 2008, may we never forget the thousands who lost their lives for daring to believe in change! May we also never forget that thesame people who murdered our brothers & sisters are the same people in power today! They should be held to account!
