“D&D is just a hack & slash game at its core. Play other games to do other things.”

“D&D doesn’t do exploration well.”

(5) Rules and guidelines for exploration

DMG pp. 106-112

“D&D doesn’t provide enough guidelines for inspiration, so I <insert house rule>.”

(6) Guidance for how to use inspiration

DMG pp. 240-241

“I prefer grittier games. D&D is too high fantasy for my tastes.”

(7) Rules for grittier games

DMG p. 266

I wouldn’t claim that the game does these things better than other games; that’s for others to argue. But the argument time and again is that #dnd5e does not do <thing>, to which I reply -
