THREAD: A friend of my partner's has fallen into the racist shitscape of internet conspiracies. He visited last summer and there was no hint of this, and is now convinced that BLM and the movement to defund police is a Chinese plot to have the UN invade the US.
I think it's important to share the theories because I keep seeing these tropes appear, both from hardcore racists (fuck them) but also from people who would say they mean well *but* .. they're supportive *but*

Identifying these conspiracies is really important to confront them.
So if you have people like this in your life, drop a comment and maybe we can see what kinds of logic helps to unstick them from time.

First off -- there is a lot of fear of Marxism. BLM = Marx = China = UN = NWO. You don't need to dig far to see this is anti-Semitic ...

Just starting work tonight on death in long-term and residential care and I wanted to start with a quick thread. There's a lot of blame to go around but I want to specifically focus on the mainstream media ...
As media has concentrated, there are way fewer eyes on these facilities. The reports, inquiries and news about the abuses within become little more than one-day affairs (s/o to @KateDubinski who, if I'm not wrong, covered the Wettlaufer inquiry intensely for CBC London)
Forget the fact that it's harder and harder for someone who, say, has two PSW parents to become a journalist and help influence coverage ... that's a big problem and doesn't only touch this crisis ... but what's been just as bad has been the total shutout of left-wing voices.

When it was established, it was roundly criticized for not having a single representative of the workers who are in this system. There were some professors. But there were also owners/CEOs/EDs of LTC facilities. To start ...
One member was James Schlegel, owner of Schlegel homes. Collectively, there have been at least 63 deaths in their homes. Schlegel is also a big supporter of Doug Ford.
