Elijah Weatherspoon, 18, went on a boat in Charleston Harbor with 7 white people, never made it back. They claim he jumped overboard & they couldn’t get him back on the boat. His family/friends say he could swim. An athlete. Mismatched stories from “friends” on the boat(thread)
Elijah’s (also known as Nicky) mom posted this pleading for answers after he did not return from his boating trip on Thursday, June 25. Coast Guard searched the “area” (not the harbor itself) for 24 hrs and then called off the search according to the post and courier 2/
P&C report just that a teen “fell” into the water on Thursday night after 10pm. Supposedly, another person jumped in to save him and made it back okay but could not pull Elijah from the water. He had family members and friends pleading for help on social media 3/
Elijah played football and soccer at different high schools and leagues in VA before moving to Charleston, SC. He played soccer with my younger brother (#17 navy in the second pic, Elijah is #9). There are no news reports on his death past the no-info story from P&C above 4/
. @CharlestonPD @MountPleasantPD #TamlaHorsford #KendrickJohnson Black men, women, and children being MURDERED by white people and passed off as accidents with no investigation. It’s been hours since his body was recovered. We demand you bring him justice and find the truth 5/
Unknown to me if the people he was with on the boat were minors, but I haven’t seen anything on their names. He “fell” or “jumped” into the water (diff stories) and apparently they could not recover him? He could swim, was athletic, but couldn’t get back on the boat? 6/
Elijah “Nicky” Weatherspoon deserves justice. His aunt posted saying he had a “zest for life.” He was a young, 18-year-old boy with a future. If you’re in Charleston and have any info on who he was with, share it!! Call Mount Pleasant PD with the info below and demand answers 7/

The people he was with reportedly took THREE HOURS to call for help and report what happened on the water. They can’t keep their story straight as to what actually happened. The family hasn’t been given any reason to believe they’ll get a full investigation! 12/
A lot of mentions along the lines of “why would he let himself be the only Black person” etc. Encourage a look at why white supremacy allows white people to get away with literal murder, entrapping Black ppl who trust them & killing them w no consequence, instead of victim blaming
Of course it’s a sad reality that Black families have a need to teach their children not to surround themselves with only white people for fear of something like this happening. We need to be better as well at putting the blame where it belongs & dismantling white supremacy
Here is the link to donate to his mom, Melanie! She goes by a different name on fb (as seen below) but it has been verified that it is Elijah’s mother. This was shared by a friend who also organized the page on FB for info on Elijah facebook.com/donate/9745781…
Donate using the link above, verified by this family friend!
To clarify, in a previous tweet there is a screenshot from Elijah’s mom, who uses the pseudonym Ursula (maybe a given or middle name, I have no clue) on Facebook. She goes by Melanie irl and this is the CONFIRMED link to donate to her!
Another update about the investigation. You can call (843) 953-9378 and ask for April or Tony regarding Elijah’s case
