This thread will be for sculptures /paintings that might help us get knowlege of arms and armours of Martial hindus in premuslim times .
Shunga era Cavarlry Archer . An example of cavalry archer before the use of Recurve bow in classical times.
Any person knowlegable is welcome to comment on what these sculptures represent .
Indian soldiers (1st-2nd c CE)
Notice the boots btw ! We need to forget the notion that ancient Indians (and soldiers !) wore wooden sandles . It is not practical and leather boots of various varieties are prominently mentioned in sources of every period.
Satavahana Elephant armour (2ndc CE) Even the Rider is covered in scales .
Another Shunga cavalry archer . Note the non recurve bow (as opposed to recurve seen in Gupta coins)
