5-4: SCOTUS Chief Justice Roberts joins Breyer, Ginsburg,Sotomayor & Kagan in striking down Louisiana abortion law:"Louisiana law imposes a burden on access to abortion just as severe as that imposed by the TX law,for the same reasons..La’s law cannot stand under our precedents."
Alito dissented along w/Gorsuch, Thomas & Kavanaugh: "Today’s decision claims new victims.The divided majority cannot agree on what the abortion right requires,but it nevertheless strikes down La law that the legislature enacted for asserted purpose of protecting women’s health."
Kavanaugh dissenting: "In short, I agree with Justice Alito that the Court should remand the case for a new trial and additional factfinding under the appropriate legal standards."
Gorsuch dissenting: "Today’s decision doesn’t just overlook one of these rules. It overlooks one after another."
Gorsuch: "And it does so in a case touching on one of the most controversial topics in contemporary politics and law, exactly the context where this Court should be leaning most heavily on the rules of the judicial process."
Louisiana GOP Senator John Kennedy on SCOTUS ruling striking down his state's abortion law: "It's very disappointing to see the Supreme Court add to the misguided legacy of Roe v. Wade."
Louisiana GOP Senator Bill Cassidy on today's Supreme Court ruling on his state's abortion law: "Women who use a clinic without hospital admitting privileges are in danger of complications and death should the procedure go badly. The Supreme Court ensured this danger remains."
