Well thank you Fox and Friends. I just had to beg my mom to defer to me, a 18-year veteran of medical writing, who works with doctors every day, rather than FOX about the increase in #covid19 cases not being accounted for entirely by more testing.
I asked her - she's 70-something -not to run out to the store for ice. She said it was OK because 11 am was still early. I said every day Georgia (home on a visit) sees a new most number of infections in one day.
She said, it's just because we're testing more. I said that only accounts for some of the increase and would she pleases on defer to me on medical things. I work with doctors, I read the journal articles on COVID.
I told her I would sit down and do the math with her and my dad, if that made her trust me over "wherever you are getting your information."
Mom did agree to listen to me, but there was faulty argument after faulty argument, and I had to explain why each one was wrong. My mom was going to trust FOX over her daughter who works in medicine.
I am very liberal and always have been --- proudly so. But COVID isn't political. I wouldn't lie to anyone about health. I want to help make medicine less confusing and intimidating to people.
If something in medicine is unsettled, I will explain both sides and why opinions differ.
It hurts my heart that anyone, much less my mom, would think that I would not be truthful about their health. Brownie promise --- I'm not making anything about COVID up.
