1/ Imran Khan on why General Musharraf committed treason.

(Today's Twitter Project: compiling all of IK's rants against General Musharraf and the army in one thread. Will take a while! Fortunately, accounts like @mughalbha have meticulous records.)
2/ Imran Khan argued that the United States had committed a grave error by supporting General Musharraf and that the War on Terror could only be won if power was transferred to the people of Pakistan.
3/ Just including this one because it's entertaining. General Musharraf said that IK had asked him for 90-100 seats in the 2002 elections but according to their (ISI's?) estimates, he only had support for 4 or 5.
4/ Imran Khan said that the military establishment had sponsored sectarian militancy in Pakistan.
5/ This clip is the cutest so far. IK said that he was wrong to support Gen Musharraf because the institution that he came from could never rule in Pakistan's interest. A General, even if he were an angel, wasn't the solution as army destroyed institutions
6/ IK said that the army controlled PK's resources & that if Hamoodur Rehm Comm had said in 70s that top brass was corrupt, we could imagine the situation now

8/ Here's IK appealing to the international community that it pressure General Musharraf to restore deposed Supreme Court judges and to respect the constitution of Pakistan.

10/ Imran Khan explains why Generals shouldn't be given extensions.
11/ On why Generals aren't qualified to run the country.
12/ On how the military establishment props up corrupt politicians for its own benefit.
13/ On Generals being cowards, who are afraid of popular resistance.
14/ On how the army suppresses genuine leaders and installs puppets who are easy to control either because they are corrupt or because they're incompetent.
15/ Yes, Prime Minister.

16/ He criticized the army for wasting resources on a new GHQ building & politicians for not having the courage to call it out. Imran also said that the army rented itself out to foreign countries to fight wars that would be unthinkable for elected leaders

Bought Shuja Nawaz's "The Battle for Pakistan" from Liberty Books to figure out what the army found so threatening that it banned the book launch in Pakistan.

Sharing some of his ideas in a thread:

1. US should push for an integrated Greater South Asia as counterweight to China
2. He looks to Imran Khan with hope, & blames the US for "mollycoddling the corrupt civilian leadership" (xxxvi) of Pakistan, which should have put him in the military establishment's good graces...but apparently even this much debate was too threatening.
3. OK, seeing reason for alarm. Nawaz doesn't "support the military as a substitute for civil government" or its "politicization." He wants to provide "constructive criticism" so that Pakistan's narrative can be based on a "verifiable reality."

Hamoodur Rehman Commission Report 1971: "After analysing the evidence brought before the Commission, we came to the conclusion that the process of moral degeneration among the senior ranks of the Armed Forces was set in motion by their involvement in Martial Law duties in 1958.."
