@roseannecash wrote that her daughter had been called a “liberal pussy!” for wearing a mask to buy groceries. American leadership has politicized the pandemic instead of trying to fight it. So much for the myth that our political system and way of life are a model for the world.
Yesterday, the U.S. hit ~50,000 new cases. When I wrote this piece on the 29th, during the previous two days—June 27 and 28—*zero* new cases had been recorded in France. The U.S. had a head start to get this under control after watching what happened in Europe.
And for the record. Death isn't the only adverse outcome: You don't want to get COVID and live with the chronic fatigue syndrome, neurological and lung damage many are starting to report experiencing. You don't want to be in a society that has 50k new cases every day, period.
To anyone responding to this and saying that the U.S. doesn't have the worst death per capita rate, I advise you to read this and consider living with these consequences of widespread transmission: nytimes.com/2020/06/26/opi…
