It’s okay though, campus reopenings will be fine as long as 100% of students wear masks properly all the time, sit in their assigned seats, never speak to each other in class, stay 6 feet apart at all times, stay on campus, eat alone, exercise alone, study alone, & never party.
That scenario is totally realistic and definitely going to work and worth bringing everyone back to campus for, right??
Wait I forgot to mention the part where virus-laden aerosols and droplets are also just generally in the air in the classrooms and bathrooms and dining halls and can linger for hours. How long can everyone hold their breath?

Taking COVID-19 risks because you’re “not scared” is like picking up a hitchhiker with a backpack full of live grenades and dropping him off in the center of town. Maybe you’ll be fine; it’s your car, whatever. But you know what he’s planning and you could choose NOT to help.
There are certain risks we just can’t avoid. But there’s no need to volunteer to be a spreader when you don’t have to.
You just really can’t think of a pandemic in terms of personal risk. Anyone who becomes a victim is also, without knowing it for several days, a disease multiplier and spreader. We do our best to stay safe for everyone, not just for ourselves.

A good rule of thumb is that being inside a building with other people is about the most dangerous thing you can do right now.
Wear a mask, wash your hands, keep your distance, but for what it's worth my main priority based on everything I've read is doing what I can to avoid breathing the same air as strangers for any appreciable length of time
"Are you open for pickup?"
"Yep, just come inside and pick up the item"
"Ah, no, sorry, I don't enter buildings"
"Oh, okay, we will bring it to the door"

More testing doesn’t always mean more cases. Need to know % of positive tests — it tells you if you’re testing enough to track the disease. If you do 10,000 tests & 20% are positive, that’s 2,000 cases. If you do 20,000 tests but only 10% are positive, that’s still 2,000 cases.
To really track the disease, % positive cases should be low, indicating you’re probably testing enough to find a good fraction of the actual cases. If more testing were responsible for increases in cases, % positive rates would be going down.
In states like Arizona, Florida, and Texas, where cases are rising sharply right now, percent positive numbers are roughly steady or even rising. So it’s not the testing. It’s the spread.
