Here we go - HUL has a front-page ad in today's Economic Times (for some odd reason, instead of TOI!) about the name change for 'Men's Fair & Lovely' now being called 'Glow & Handsome'. Is it a subtle ad to denote a name change that could also remind people of Fair & Lovely's 1/5
2/5 name change (to Glow & Lovely) without having to rekindle people's annoyance on that imbroglio?
Anyway, my point is not HUL, but Emami.
As soon as HUL announced the name change yesterday, Emami fumed and made news with the claim that they had already filed a trademark for
3/5 this name, to replace their Fair & Handsome brand name and most importantly, that they had "launched the brand digitally last week".
Now, if they had launched the new brand "digitally" last week, surely we would have seen it?
4/5 So I checked the following sources to see if they had:
1. Emami India website
2. Fair & Handsome website
3. Fair & Handsome on Facebook
4. Fair & Handsome on Instagram

And there's no 'digital launch' of the name change anywhere last week, or in the last 3 months! So where exactly did Emami digitally launch it? And how are the media, quoting Emami as-is, not questioning this?
Addendum: There are no news reports of this launch either, from last week (or the last few weeks)! Given the high-decibel imbroglio HUL is in, the news media would have pounced on Emami's announcement if they had 'digitally' made any announcement recently.
UPDATE! Emami has registered the URL glowandhandsome dot com on June 25, 2020! *THIS* is their 'digital launch'. Bloody clever move, and check-mate, @unilever :)
HUL releasing a front-page today to announce the name change of Fair & Lovely Men to Glow & Handsome DESPITE Emami raising hell yesterday claiming they had registered the trademark AND booked the domain name can mean only thing: "Come at us, Emami! Let's fight!"

I found this contrasting takes on NPCI's clarification very, very interesting. Both are from GooglePay's rivals - Sameer is PhonePe's founder, while Bipin is MobiKwik's founder. All 3 are in a cut-throat competition for the largest pie in the Indian digital payments market. 1/5
2/5 Sameer's comment comes probably from the broader realization that such fake news could singe even PhonePe tomorrow - basically, it could happen to anyone.

Bipin's comment seems awkward, pointing to a technicality that GooglePay is not a Payment Systems Operator (the CNBC
3/5 article clearly calls out NPCI saying that only they are a PSO and they have, in their capacity as PSO, authorize all UPI participants, like GooglePay. See: bit.ly/2NvOk7v). He also goes on to question NPCI: "Also is NPCI guaranteeing security in this app?".

Facebook Shops has just been launched! Good timing, coinciding with lockdowns in many countries around the world. 1/6
2/6 Also, from the perspective of consumers seeing Amazon as a ruthlessly efficient delivery company (See: Amazon Will Deliver More Packages Than UPS or FedEx by 2022 bit.ly/2ZjHysz), with the store-front almost taken for granted.
3/6 Facebook Shops does not talk about delivery at all, and I gather that is left to the shops. So that's 4 parties—the shops, Facebook as virtual store-front, the delivery partner and the consumer—in the mix. Amazon has just 2 - the shop and the consumer.
