Texas Department of Health and Human Services reported at least 1,335 positive Covid-19 cases throughout the state's open child care facilities.

Of those cases, 894 are among staff and 441 are children, a spokesperson for the state department said. 2/
The positive cases are reported in 883 of the state's child care facilities. The department said that there are 12,220 open child care operations throughout the state. 3/
How these numbers compare: On May 15, the state reported a total of 59 cases in 53 child care facilities — 36 staff and 23 children. And on June 15, there were 210 reported cases in 177 facilities, 141 staff and 69 children. 4/

"Although proactive school closures cannot interrupt transmission on their own, they can reduce peak incidence by 40 to 60% and delay the epidemic."

For some reason when people hear “less than,” they think of 1 in 100 instead of 1 in 2.

This is relevant to severity of cases in children
Severe illness in children is NOT very low incidence:

Hospitalization in children compared to adults 18-64 is 5.7% vs 10% (all cases) or 20% vs 33% (hospitalization status known). Not 1 in 10, or 1 in 100, it is reduced by perhaps a factor of 2

Across all ages: Among all 2,572 cases in children aged <18 years, the median age was 11 years (range 0–17 years). Nearly 1/3 (813; 32%) aged 15–17, then children 10–14 years (682; 27%), 398 (15%) aged <1 year, 291 (11%) aged 1–4 years, and 388 (15%) aged 5–9 years.
Incidence in children: Low, not very low. Among 149,082 (99.6%) reported cases for which age was known, 2,572 (1.7%) were among children aged <18 years, which are 22% of the US population. So relative incidence is 8%. This means that children are sick about 1 in 12 times as much.
This is consistent with Sweden data

In Sweden, kids are relatively unprotected. Population data based on 2018 World Bank data, COVID age based on statista.com/statistics/110…
The last column is COVID percentage / Age percentage, the higher it is the more vulnerable is an age group.

Children are indeed less likely to get COVID:
age 0-9 0.05,
age 10-19 0.33,
but not negligible compared to
age 20-29 0.96,
age 30-39 1.15.
Note ratio should be considered relative to daily contact number. Just as 60-79 is lower than 30-59, so reduced daily social activities can outweigh increased susceptibility. Low values 0.05 and 0.33 of children may be due to relatively small social network (especially 0-9 yo)
