There is one firm rule from separating functional societies from non-functioning ones that I have. Consider it a minimal standard, there are some who pass the test but still fail in other ways but none who fail it that are worth emulating. Are unaccompanied women safe from sexual
assault in public. This is it. My reasoning isn't particularly related to feminism or even morality, rather two simple utilitarian conclusions that can be drawn from this test. First, do the men in the society have enough future time preference to not touch the goodies that do
not belong to them. If yes then good, if no then this society will never likely amount to anything. Second, do the men in the society have enough social cohesion to not predate on outgroup women, i.e. women that aren't clan property. If yes, again good. If no, this means that the
predominant mode of social organization is kin based patronage networks which kill any chance of "win-win" cooperative behavior. It's a simple pass fail test where a failure in either front mean's the society is doomed for one way or another.
For the lolbertarians out there. Consider this question a test of a fundamental property rights. Does the society respect the property rights of fathers/husbands to control reproductive access.
