Yesterday @thedailybeast published an article suggesting that @HumanEvents - along with a slew of other outlets around the world - unknowingly published articles by a network of “fake journalists.”

The Beast’s investigation suggests that “Joyce Toledano” - the author of the @HumanEvents piece “Qatar Is Destabilizing The Middle East” - does not exist, and that sophisticated techniques were used to disguise her identity.

Human Events was not alone in being deceived - the Washington Examiner, the Jerusalem Post, Al-Arabiya, the South China Morning Post, and a slew of other outlets all published articles by these “fake journalists.”

Human Events runs with a small team. We prioritize ensuring that our articles make accurate factual claims and defensible arguments. After having reviewed the piece in question, we think it holds up - even if we were deceived as to authorship.

Indeed, we agree with the underlying argument. Qatar is a bad actor. As such, we’ve adopted the article’s argument as our own. Nowhere in @thedailybeast’s article is any suggestion that the pieces were substantively wrong, or that any of the factual claims were false.

In the future, we’ll dig more deeply into author bios.That said, doing extreme vetting of our authors would deter less established contributors from submitting pieces: and we are focused on the quality of the argument, not the strength of the author’s credentials.

Further, we have little patience for lectures on journalistic ethics from @thedailybeast.

This is the publication that deceptively cropped a picture of @jackposobiec to falsely make it look like he was making a Nazi salute.

And that’s only the beginning of their malfeasance.

Did you know that ex-Daily Beast “journalist” @gideonresnick outed Palmer Luckey for supporting a pro-Trump meme group - after the journalist had agreed *in writing*, to withhold Luckey’s identity unless they got his permission?

Remember when Daily Beast journalist @nicohines used Grindr under false pretenses to out gay Olympic athletes? (This one they were ashamed enough to apologize for).

Moreover, we also have little patience for lectures on propaganda from @marcowenjones, a professor at the Hamid Bin Khalifa University in Qatar.

Jones’ employer, Hamad bin Khalifa University, is part of the Qatar Foundation, which is controlled by the mother of the current ruler of Qatar.

So - @marcowenjones’ paycheck comes, effectively, from the ruling family of Qatar.

And, what, exactly, have they been up to in the past decade? Well, not much. Other than bribing FIFA to host the World Cup there in 2022.

As @amnesty explains, that’s all part of the Kafala system, which viciously exploits South Asian guest workers - allowing employers to prohibit their employees from leaving the country.

The Qatari government also is in bed with Hamas terrorists.
