@billybragg @DeclanDoyle8 @ELTAuthor Strengthening the ‘rights’ of the employing class to sack or discipline tens of thousands of uppity women who dare demand an equal say regarding their own rights, self-definitions, biological reality & lived experiences is anti-working class & totally self-harming for the left.>
@billybragg @DeclanDoyle8 @ELTAuthor The collective grassroots demand on employers to sack actual members of fascist groups is an act of defending our unions, democratic rights, minorities & the Labour movement generally from people who use violence and intimidation to stoke division & threaten ALL democracy. >
@billybragg @DeclanDoyle8 @ELTAuthor Feminists are not fascists, they are fighting FOR democracy, they are PART of the Labour and progressive movement & in the UK they are overwhelmingly FOR the right of trans people to be equal citizens free from violence and unjust discrimination. >
@billybragg @DeclanDoyle8 @ELTAuthor There is a dispute about whether it is a ‘right’ for biologically Male people who ‘identify’ as women to demand not only their rights as equal citizens as rightly enshrined in EA2010, but also to demand all of the rights which belong to women as an oppressed sex, >
@billybragg @DeclanDoyle8 @ELTAuthor regardless of the many evidenced detriments to both them as a sex & to their liberation movement, feminism. This dispute has become toxic because the people claiming to represent the dominant trans viewpoint have tried to reject all of the usual collective, democratic methods >
@billybragg @DeclanDoyle8 @ELTAuthor of resolving disputes within the working class movement, dialogue and debate, the presumption of sincerity until proven otherwise, evidence, rationality & above all the recognition that we have more in common against the state & an oppressive system than what divides us. >
@billybragg @DeclanDoyle8 @ELTAuthor The proponents of a very specific set of dogmas & a very specific conception of ‘gender identity’ (one frequently disputed by many trans people) instead chose to try to coerce women & anyone standing in solidarity with them by smearing us as fascists or similar. It is a lie >
@billybragg @DeclanDoyle8 @ELTAuthor We’ve been slandered as bigots or in my case (like the Jewish socialist minority amidst antisemitism accusations ) as self-haters, who should be sacked or harassed into silence & marginalisation. The smearing of any woman speaking up for her sex is fundamentally injust & sexist>
@billybragg @DeclanDoyle8 @ELTAuthor It has led to a wave of ugly, often violence-glorifying or pornified misogyny & a feverish atmosphere that has ultimately been a disaster for trans people as well as women. How can any of this be said to be actually fighting, not fuelling transphobia? >
@billybragg @DeclanDoyle8 @ELTAuthor The only way out of this toxic quagmire for the left is to acknowledge that there is more than one oppressed group involved here and it’s in all our interests for the Labour movement to insist upon dialogue and a unifying pursuit of answers to the following question, >
@billybragg @DeclanDoyle8 @ELTAuthor how can we improve the rights and life conditions of trans people, women, LGB’s, intersex people and detransitioners without infringing the autonomy & distinct rights of each group? That is a question the Labour movement should be taking a lead in resolving ourselves, >
@billybragg @DeclanDoyle8 @ELTAuthor better to overcome divisions. To instead turn a blind eye to the presumption of insincerity, to the divisive authoritarian methods, the gross misogyny and to women’s interests and instead to treat feminists as fascists in the midst of a very real threat of a growing far right>
@billybragg @DeclanDoyle8 @ELTAuthor whilst strengthening/widening the ‘right’ of employers to sack workers, is at best self-harming stupidity & at worst it’s siding with the employer against the direct interests of half the working class & the indirect interests of all of it for frank, open, unifying dialogue >
@billybragg @DeclanDoyle8 @ELTAuthor I’m with women being attacked by both woke capitalism and Trumpist capitalism. I’m for democracy and equity for all including for trans people like myself. I will accept nothing less. Why won’t you Billy?
