As we come together during these challenging times, I'm inspired by everyday Pennsylvanians whose incredible acts of kindness and service have been bright lights in their communities. Here are some of the folks I've had the pleasure of speaking with. #ThankYouPennsylvanians
A serious car crash that put her out of work has never stopped Dawn Galia from seeking out opportunities to give back to SWPA. She's now hand sewn hundreds of masks for community members, health care workers and first responders. #ThankYouPennsylvanians triblive.com/local/valley-n…
24 yr-old Drexel University student Evan Ehlers is the founder of @sharingexcess, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit that has stepped in during COVID, to the tune of a 300% increase in food donations. #ThankYouPennsylvanians bloomberg.com/news/videos/20…
Two months after Lebanon County Commissioner Jo Ellen Litz first put out the call for homemade face masks in her community, she has fostered an operation of Central PA seamstresses - and have distributed over 8,000 masks. #ThankYouPennsylvanians eveningsun.com/story/news/202…
98-year-old Robert Kelsall wanted to improve his health and help others, so this World War II veteran from Lancaster County decided to walk laps to raise money for PPE for nursing homes. #ThankYouPennsylvanians wgal.com/article/lancas…
Mask-Erie, a group dedicated to making masks for front line workers, estimates they've distributed over 2000 masks to their community. Just another example of why we say #ThankYouPennsylvanians! goerie.com/news/20200410/…
Rachael Huxford is proof you don't need to be a pro to distribute masks. With a background in theater while studying physics at Penn State, Rachael organized members of the State College community to serve Centre County with masks. #ThankYouPennsylvanians collegian.psu.edu/news/borough/a…
On their most special day, Kerry Anne and Michael Gordan still took the opportunity to join protesters marching for justice and equality. A big congratulations and #ThankYouPennsylvanians! inquirer.com/news/george-fl…
I'm grateful for Cora Owens' words to her community. We have much more work to do, but she is a shining example of our Nation's path toward progress. #ThankYouPennsylvanians huntingdondailynews.com/news/local/man…

I’m a U.S. senator who has done something rare in today’s politics: I’ve changed my position on our nation’s gun laws.

After doing so, I didn’t burst into flames or get run out of town.

That’s how I know others can choose to do the same.🧵 washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/…
I came to Washington in 2007 with the firm belief that to support and honor Pennsylvania’s deep-rooted hunting culture meant that I should not support restrictions on guns.

Then Sandy Hook happened.
The idea that 26 children and educators could be slaughtered in a matter of minutes because a 20-year-old had virtually unfettered access to weapons of war was too much to bear.

So I changed my position. Now, it’s time for many of my colleagues in the Senate to do the same.

This morning, I held a roundtable with students in Philadelphia to discuss the impacts of gun violence on their lives and communities and what Congress must do to end this epidemic and save lives. Sen. Casey speaking at the roundtableSen. Casey shaking hands with a roundtable participant
As of 2020, the leading cause of death among children and teens in America is gun violence. It’s a staggering reminder of the breadth and impact of this uniquely American problem.

We cannot simply surrender to this problem.
My Democratic colleagues and I secured $50 million for a new Community Based Violence Intervention and Prevent grant program and the Department of Justice is accepting applications. bja.ojp.gov/funding/opport…
