A road since pre Mahabharata !! 🧐

Grand Trunk Road (Uttarapatha)

We have been taught in school books that GT road was buit by Sher Shah Suri in 16th century

But It was present before Mahabharata and evidences found that it was rebuilt in Mauryan era by Ashoka (Indica)

1/cont Sher Shah SuriSamrat AshokaUttarapatha & Dakshinapatha during MahabharataMauryan Empire
This route is one of ancient major trade routes

Uttarapatha extended from Takshila to Rajgruha & connected to the ancient trade route (The Silk Road) that connected Mongolia, China, India, Persia (Iran), Egypt and Rome

We have been taught distorted narrative about this.

2/cont
Mauryan records describes about renovation of this Ancient road by Ashoka

Same has been mentioned in Arthashastra

Greek ambassador Megasthenes wrote in his book Indica about this Ancient route

It is true Sher Shah Suri (1538-1545) also renovated this Ancient road but..

3/cont
In time of just 7 years it was not possible to built a road covering 2400 kilometres

Mahabharata mentioned routes connecting Kirata, Gnadhara, Kamboja & Yavan

The book "Foreign trade and commerce in Ancient India" of Prakash Chandra Prasad also mentions about this route

4/cont
"The archeology of Indian trade routes upto 200 BC" of Nayanjot Lahiri mentions multiple feeder routes

"Early Buddhist Transmission and trade network" by Jason Neelis has featured this route as Ancient international trade & cultural network in India connected bacteria

5/Cont
Megasthenes wrote this road connected Takshila to Petrushpur, Hastinapur to Gandhar & Tamlak to Patliputra

Monograph on this road in Punjab Govt by KM Sarkar describes about this at time of Megasthenes

Renovated, beautified by planting trees and expanded in Mauryan Empire

6/Cn Monograph of Punjab Govt describing details of GT road at th
According to Chankya' Arthashastra

Wells & rest houses were also built at every half kos for travellers

Megasthenes described this road as not foreseen by Greeks

What Sher Shah Suri did was that done by Ashoka thousands years before

And we know colonial historians..?

7/Cont
Mauriyan Era 322-187 BCE (Colonial historians)

1516-1217 BCE (Shri Vedveer Arya' Book Chronology of India based on Puranas)

Puranas says that Mahapadam founded Nanda dynasty 1500 years after Mahabharata

Possibility, may be their is some error in chronology of India...

8/n
Greek historians mentioned about Sandrokottus

May be Chandragupta lived much before the calculation of colonial historians

There is much more to uncover

We have to redefine our own glorious history in golden words.
