The producer has to prove things to the notified authority.
For companies based in the EU a whole lot of things don't need a whole audit trail of proof; just being based in the EU...

@rebechilliard ..is enough to prove you haven't used any dodgy materials/ methods/suppliers, because the EU knows such things are not available to companies in the EU.

@rebechilliard ...paperwork and independent conformity certification. Far more than is needed by an EU company to get their goods certified.
Many (most) UK companies who have been happily selling in the EU and getting their products certified fairly easily....
