Let me tell you about the day I got killed by an insect…a thread (1/14)
#BlackBotanistWeek #phdlife #fieldwork
Let me set the scene. September, the start of spring in the Karoo, and the Namaqua flowers were in full bloom (2/14)
Just a normal day at the office. We were all smiles and ready to work. I had my favourite yellow t-shirt on (first time wearing it in the field). (3/14)
It was a lovely spring day; everyone was taking pictures and we finally set up and starting working. (4/14)
As the day went by, all sorts of insects started flying my way. I kept running away (Oh I forgot to mention, I’m terrified of insects). (5/14)
Lunchtime I decided to head on to the car for a quick nap. As you can imagine, I was tired of trying to keep the insects off me. Some of my colleagues came to join me. (6/14)
These yellow buggers started to swarm the car. I remember hitting one of them, but I don’t know where it fell off. I went back to sleep (7/14)
A few minutes past and I felt something moved inside bra…. (8/14)
I had a look… (9/14)
It was one of the bugs…. My SOUL left my body…… I DIED (10/14)
As my soul levitated, I watched Bari @barix10 and Rose come to the rescue… (11/14)
Anyway, the bug was released, and I guess it lived happily ever after. (12/14)
I learnt one important thing…NEVER Ever wear YELLOW in the field. Luckily, I had a spare top in the car. (13/14)
The next day I was telling everyone how I died.
Your girl has been tweeting from the afterlife. The End (15/15)
