So here we are, at the end of the Polish presidential election campaign. What themes has the ruling party chosen to debate, at this moment of international crisis? Here is one: Trzaskowski, the opposition leader, will "fulfill Jewish demands."
here is another: Gay rights are an "ideology worse than communism"

when a tabloid with minority (25%) German ownership revealed that the president had pardoned a pedophile, the theme for several days was: "Germans are intervening in Polish elections." The pardon story was true.

But who knows - all of this makes a great distraction from the looming economic crisis and the uncertainty and anxiety created by the virus. Fictional culture wars are more entertaining than reality...
(I note for the record that this anti-semitism/anti-vax/anti-gay/anti-German combination is familiar from Russian propaganda. But here I suspect we are talking about a common authoritarian mentality rather than some kind of direct influence)
update: last night, the leader of the ruling 'Law and Justice' party declared that the opposition candidate, Trzaskowski, does not have a "Polish soul."
