A similar debate had erupted when the Telangana police had shot dead all the four accused in the wee hours of a December morning

In both the cases the criminals were accused of trying to escape as a result of which the police were forced to kill them

The arguments put forward in favour of encounters range from speedy justice to saving of tax payers' money while those against it call it normalizing 'extra-judicial killings' and even protecting the powerful whose secrets Dubey may have known

on the face of it, this may seem like a simple for and against debate. However, this topic has several shades of grey and isn't a simple black or white picture

Our cinema teaches us to hero-worship either the cop or the don. As a result we are used to seeing things as right or wrong and often forget that the real world differs from the reel world and there are several factors to be considered.

I for one believe the following in relation to the Vikas Dubey case (& in most cases this may hold true)

Vikas Dubey definitely had backing of powerful politicians जिसका सीधा सीधा मतलब है
1) मुह खोलने से पहले उसका जैल में हत्या या 2) न्यायालय से छुटकारा

Here's an important point my friend @amitstar27 brought to my notice. He said that in the 90s Shriprakash Shukla who was just 26 yrs old had already murdered more than 80 people and killed a Bihar minister in the assembly

as well as taken supari for then CM Kalyan Singh had become a hero among 'Brahmin youth'. So there is this very real danger of such people turning into heroes for the youth and becoming elected representatives which them gives them immunity.

Then comes the issue of judicial processes taking their own sweet time. As mentioned earlier Vikas Dubey has the backing of powerful politicians which has allowed him to escape crimes despite having cops as eyewitnesses

We are all aware that the judiciary takes its own sweet time in Bharat. Simple cases drag on for years & many a times those waiting for justice end up waiting for a lifetime.

In addition, there is the added risk of criminals escaping using the many loopholes that plague our laws. There is an urgent need for judicial and police reforms.

A lax judiciary will always lead to people cheering extra-judicial killings whether it is justified or not. Hyderabad encounter was cheered because the 'Nirbhaya rape case' took years to solve & there was too much dillydallying

A state like UP needs a tough taskmaster like CM Yogi & we can debate whether this encounter was good, bad, right, wrong, politicians protected we can't deny that criminals can't be given the long rope & if law fails extra-judicial methods fill the gap
